A final focus on treatment pricing, tips, contraindications, complications, pre and post skin care and room set up will be reviewed.

Chemical Peeling Level I

Chemical peels create a mild injury to the skin, resulting in stimulation of collagen and elastin fibres for an anti-aging effect. This is an ideal treatment option for reducing hyperpigmentation, acne and congestion, pore size, fine lines, wrinkles and scarring.

This advanced clinical course (taught in a hybrid format) is designed for those previously certified in Facials. Theory will include a discussion on enzymes, AHA’s and BHA’s used in skin care and chemical exfoliation, contraindications, product knowledge and extensive practical hands-on training using professional pharmaceutical skin care lines.

Chemical Peeling Level II

This class is meant for those with experience in glycolic peels that want a more in depth peel. The workshop will include product knowledge and treatment protocols for higher percentage AHA peels, blended peels and self neutralizing peels such as Salicylic, Jessner Lite and TCA’s. Models will need to have experienced lighter peels and be used to AHA’s in skin care.

Microdermabrasion

This class will include a review of basic facial knowledge and will be focused on theory of microdermabrasion; including contraindications and a discussion on the differences between crystal projected and diamond touch professional systems. Students will obtain hands on practical experience with various Microdermabrasion machines and will be introduced to LED light therapy, micro currents and ultrasound.

Dermaplaning

This course will introduce you to one of the hottest trends in the medical and Esthetic industry today.

Dermaplaning is a method of exfoliation that consists of using a 10 gauge scalpel to gently scrape off the top layer of dulling dead skin cells and vellus hair in order to reveal a smoother, brighter complexion. It allows for greater product penetration of skincare products and creates a flawless canvas for makeup. Class theory includes review on skin and skin typing, contraindications and indications. Students will work on body, each other and two models.

Derma Needling

Derma Needling (Micro Needling) is perhaps the most successful treatment available for aging and acne scaring. This technique causes minimal invasive precision micro-injuries of the epidermis and the dermis. In turn, Derma Needling induces the skins own healing process and collagen production is proliferated.

This class will teach the principals of Derma Needling and will review skin anatomy focusing on the circulatory and nervous system and collagen production. Students will learn different methods including the InnoPen, a revolutionary patented medical grade device that surpasses all others. This course is comprised in the teachings of the science behind Micro Needling, theory and practical application, client consultation, application of topical anesthetics and after care. Students will be trained on the only CSA/FDA/Health Canada approved 13 point InnoPen device which consists of surgical stainless steel needles.

Body Contouring

This course will provide students with the knowledge and practical hands on experience using the power of the latest, cutting edge technologies combined for cellulite reduction, skin tightening and body toning. The basic science of non invasive modulations and modifications of the adipose tissue as well as generalized figure and shape is reviewed. The course further expands on the differences between technologies and how they will address and correct various body contouring concerns of the client. Students will understand indications and contraindications of non invasive body contouring and review clinical results and outcomes of specific technologies. The newest and latest study of radio frequency energy devices is explored as well as suction, massage and Endermologie. Practical training will demonstrate the importance of proper patient preparation and the utilization of combination therapies with multiple devices to achieve maximum results for the patient.

“As a former college/university professor (20 years) turned tattoo artist (2016-Present) becoming a clinical esthetician was never something that I would have even considered. But here I am, at 46 years of age, proving that you really can teach an old dog new tricks! I began the program in 2023 with the sole purpose of obtaining a qualification so that I could offer Tattoo Laser Removal services at my studio in Claresholm, Alberta.

However, I had to take several pre-requisites first including a pre-entry interview with Ms. Vanessa DeMello. With so many schools offering similar services I chose The Esthetic Institute because of its award winning status and equally as important, they are recognized by Alberta Health Service (AHS). They are also a CIDESCO recognized school and hence their teachers taught on both programs. Being internationally recognized and being held to such a high standard was important to me.

Completing the Advanced Diploma in Clinical Esthetics was as rewarding an experience as was completing my honours degrees in Anthropology and Sociology respectively. The teachers are passionate and dedicated and put many of my former colleagues to shame. Knowledgeable, professional, and intuitive, I was not only pleasantly surprised with the caliber of education but also impressed by how I, a 240lb and heavily tattooed bald (sadly) yet bearded (at the time) man was accepted by staff, teachers, and students alike.

From my very first meeting with Vanessa, I was made to feel welcomed and found myself making connections that I didn’t expect to make. Equally, I was delighted with how structured and engaging every class was. The course assessments, practicals, and exams reflected not only theory but real world practice as well. As someone who entered the program not understanding what a facial would or could entail, (let alone how it could possibly take an hour to complete), to being heavily inspired to open an entirely new clinical Esthetics business in conjunction with my existing services, it speaks volumes of the quality of instructors that I had.

From Betty Ann, Angela, and Jaden to Tamara and Nadia (to name but a few instructors) I found myself immersed into a new world of opportunities that I never even realized existed. These ladies (amongst many) never once made me feel out of place but instead, because of them, I have heavily invested into bringing the majority of the services taught to southern Albertans. Thus, the program was challenging in all the right ways and for the first time in as long as I could remember, I felt excited about learning again. This is largely thanks to my educators!

The students are professionally inclined and their ages range from 18 to middle aged. Expectations are clear and concise and we had opportunities to work together each class. I myself made some wonderful friendships and cannot deny that by the end of the program I was sad that it was over. Its been akin to being at a summer camp for me personally where having to say goodbye to both new friends and TEI has been bittersweet. As cliche as it may sound, this has been a life changing experience for me and I am forever indebted to Vanessa and her team of educators for allowing me to be a part of their school. It has given me a sense of renewal in a way I never imagined could be possible.

I still wear jeans and am going to grow my beard back out to its original glory now that I have graduated… but I will be wearing an Esthetics jacket (black of course) and providing Albertans with the very best that TEI has to offer through my education. Oh, and in case you are wondering, I decided to offer IPL instead of Tattoo Laser Removal for reasons that I explain on our website! 😉 I encourage anyone thinking of a career change to meet with Vanessa or reach out to me with any questions that you may have. Special thanks goes out to everyone at TEI. I loved my time with you more than you could know. My family and I are very appreciative of everything that you did for us!”
