Betty Ann Newton


Betty Ann has been in the esthetic industry for over 20 years. For the past 10 years, she has been an educator and consultant with Beauty Depot. For the past 5 years she has worked full time with Beauty Depot as a Senior Educator and Skin Care Director. She has received her Masters in Skin Care from Repêchage in New York, as well as training from Silhouet Tone, one of the leading advanced esthetic equipment companies in the industry. Additionally, she has trained with several cosmeceutical lines including Serene Paramedical Skin Care. Betty Ann has a passion for education. Her vision is to facilitate growth and transformation. With her unique and considerable ability to nurture, she patiently tries to instil these compassionate thoughts to her students. Betty Ann brings to our industry a deep concern and care for others, she elevates esthetic industry standards from more than just skin care, to people student at a time.

Meredith Thompson


Meredith Thompson is a CIDESCO-certified esthetician and has been active in various areas of the beauty industry for over 12 years. In addition, Meredith received the designation of Certified Podologist from the Canadian Examining Board of Health Care Practitioners in 2008, and is an enthusiastic advocate and practitioner of advanced pedicuring and preventative foot care. In 2012, Meredith returned to university, and graduated from the University of Calgary with a bachelor’s degree in Cellular, Microbial, and Molecular biology in 2016. Meredith also enjoys the outdoors and spends time hiking and skiing in the Rocky Mountains with her husband, Jon. “I’m proud to represent The Esthetic Institute and participate in the development of the next wave of internationally certified estheticians. Cindy Dafoe


Cindy received her cosmetology license in 1986. She worked in a salon for 5 years before taking a break to have 5 wonderful children. Cindy has also worked in a hospice and in office management. She has also ran and maintained a successful hair and esthetic home-based business, called TLC Esthetics. Cindy's time is dedicated to taking care of her family and working with her clients. She is very passionate about doing what she can to help people and make them feel good about themselves. She has been a member of the Beauty Depot team since 2009 and began instructing at The Esthetic Institute Training Center in 2012. Her philosopy is simple: "I love helping people, I love learning & I love teaching."

Jacky Tattrie


Jacky has been involved with the hair and beauty industry since 1982. She received her full cosmetology diploma in 1984 and continued to further her education in advanced hair, make-up, skin care and nails over the years. In addition to working in the beauty industry, Jacky has also assumed the responsibility as a manager in both the beauty industry and other retail businesses. Her retail experience and ability to effectively manage a team is shared with her students. Jacky encourages and coaches her students in business planning, providing an exceptional client service, retailing and employee management. As a manager, it has helped Jacky to successfully work with a variety of people of all ages and backgrounds. Jacky has been an instructor at The Esthetic Institute since 2014. Her goal is to ensure every student learns in a fun and motivational way. It has been her dream to teach esthetics for years. As she has had many amazing, influential instructors she wants to pass the same experience to each one of her students. Jacky feels “It is very rewarding seeing students learn from myself but even more rewarding what I learn from them.”

Alexandra Thompson


RMT (in Alberta), Hot Stone Therapist, Reflexologist, professional member of the NHPC (Massage Association) and EDUCATOR for Hot and Cold Stone and various Body Massage Courses. Alexandra Thompson founded her company,, as a resource for instruction and product support based on a demand for a Canadian based company. She has been instructing her various Massage and Hot Stone courses to Esthetic and Massage Schools, Colleges, spas and businesses throughout Canada, since 2000. She has an extremely varied educational and professional background. Besides her many years of public speaking and teaching marketing and business sales in front of large audiences throughout North America, her massage and work background includes training in the fields of Massage Therapy, Reflexology, Advanced Deep Tissue Massage, Chair Massage and Hot & Cold Stone Therapy. Additionally, she is a professional member of the Massage Association called the NHPC, based in Edmonton, Alberta. Notably, Alexandra has received Canada-wide recognition and certification with several Massage Associations for Continuing Educational Credits namely, the provinces of Alberta (MTA, MTAA, RMTA and NHPC), Saskatchewan (MTAS) and Ontario (CMTO) as well as in the United States (AMTA). Alexandra has been teaching Stone Massage for The Esthetic Institute Training Center since 2001. In 2009, The Esthetic Institute added Alexandra's four day Relaxation Massage course to their curriculum and it has run with great success booking months in advance. More recently, we have also added the four day Advanced Deep Tissue Massage class as well. With her passion, dedication and approachability, Alexandra excels at helping her students grasp the details and organization required in mastering her unique procedures of Relaxation Massage, Deep Tissue Massage and the Hot and Cold Stone Massage courses.

Tamara Rosas


Tamara has been in the Esthetics and Medical Laser field since 1996. Throughout the years, she has gained a wealth of knowledge in both fields. Tamara worked in Medical Esthetics for 7 years prior to opening her own Esthetic Laser Clinic in Calgary called The Lasers Edge. She has successfully been operating her business for the last 10 years. This experience has given her the opportunity to work closely with her staff. Tamara has been awarded a certificate of excellence in 2006 for all her advanced laser technology knowledge that she has acquired throughout the years. She attained this by keeping her knowledge current with the latest technology and techniques by attending international and local training seminars. Tamara is extremely excited to be able to train and pass all her knowledge to her students. She strongly believes knowledge is power! Trena Olfert


Award-winning through Wedding Industry Experts and Nominee of both Avenue Magazine Top 40 Under 40 and Alberta Woman Entrepreneurs Award, Trena Olfert of Trenalaine Makeup Artist has several years in the industry educating and empowering women as CEO and professional makeup artist. Trena not only exudes talent and skills but her integrity and serial entrepreneurship brings more than just her brushes to any wedding, private consult, photo shoot ,event and instructing makeup classes. Trena has been on CTV Morning Live chatting makeup and continues to be featured in several local and international print and online magazines. She also exhibits and handles the runway makeup with her team for both Bridal Expo and Wedding Fair here in Calgary. Proud member of Calgary Bridal Alliance and Calgary Bride and is a BBB Accredited Business. Trena has partnered with The Esthetic Institute Training Center as their instructor for the Makeup Artistry Program. She redeveloped Level 1 Makeup Artistry and developed Advanced Makeup Artistry, Portfolio & Destination Portfolio Classes as well as Brand Yourself Workshop to help further mentor and educate emerging leaders. She continues to support, offer guidance, mentorship and demonstrates leadership in the Calgary community. Trena is the former Chair & Founder of Dress for Success Calgary, a non-profit that provides support, styling and clothing to women getting back into the workforce from Nov 2010 to Dec 2014.

Lindsey Taksas


Lindsey Taksas is a certified Microblading specialist and is a graduate of The Esthetic Institute's Microblading program. Lindsey has always had a love for esthetics and beauty. She believes that the right eyebrow can truly transform a face and works with clients to create an individualized brow to truly enhance their appearance. Lindsey is a true believer in advancing education through learning new techniques from other industry professionals. She completed training in advanced ombre shading techniques and color correction in Thousand Oaks California in November 2016 through Deluxe Brow Training. In April 2017, she received the Phi Brow certificate in manual removal of permanent make up through a training session she attended in Los Angeles California. She has also completed advanced techniques training with Tina Davis in 2017. Lindsey has also worked in the healthcare industry as a dental assistant for the last 12 years. She has certification in Blood Borne Pathogen prevention training and impeccable standards in having a clean and sterile environment.

Lynsey Prins


Lynsey is the founder of Styles III Body & Soul, established in 2001. After traveling to Atlanta, Georgia in 2003 to obtain her credentials as an Advanced Clinical Skin Care Technician at Insitut' DerMed., Lynsey went from providing a full service spa to focus on her passion of skincare, currently specializing in Body Sugaring and Clinical Facials. Lynsey became a licensed sugaring technician in 2002, leading her to her other passion of facilitating and presenting, developed from her previous career in social work. This motivated her to be certified as an educator in 2008. She is presently an educator at The Esthetic Institute in Calgary. Lynsey's compassion and love for people accounts for her client loyalty and enthusiastic students.

Ingrid Gibson


Ingrid Gibson has enjoyed being in the esthetic industry for over 15 years. She is the owner of Ingrid’s Laser and Electrolysis Clinic. Since its inception in 2002, Ingrid proudly serves Calgary and surrounding area residents. After receiving her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Manitoba, she moved to Calgary in 1982. Ingrid is married with 5 children and 3 grandchildren. Ingrid believes that one of the advantages of owning her own company is that it allows her to have a healthy work/life balance. Since becoming a certified Electrologist, she has continued her education by attending over 30 conferences and seminars throughout Canada and the United States. She truly believes that with wisdom and knowledge comes power, which she shares with her students, clients and other Electrologists to collaboratively ensure the best possible treatment for the best possible outcome. Ingrid’s passion is Electrolysis, and she looks forward to sharing her knowledge with students at The Esthetic Institute so that they will be well prepared and confident as the next generation of successful Electrologists.

Jamie Van Waes


Jamie graduated in 2009 from The Esthetic Institute (TEI) in their Esthetic program with honours. She has been an Esthetician for 8 years and a Clinical Esthetician for 6 years. She began her career operating a successful, home based spa business for 6 years. In 2015, Jamie joined the team at TEI as one of their Clinical Estheticians at The EI Spa. She always has had a passion for and been committed to this esthetic and spa industry. "It is a true honour to be able to help others achieve their skin care goals and needs. I truly love helping others." She has recently added teaching to her list of attributes. Jamie is a part-time Teacher’s Assistant in the CIDESCO full-time diploma program and couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity! "I feel so fortunate to have this opportunity to be able to help students become the best Esthetician that they can be. I also want to ensure the ladies have fun learning, feel confident in their skills and help them love what they do!" Jamie has always kept up with her knowledge on the latest techniques, trends, and equipment in the industry. She has attended several Silhouet Tone equipment workshops, various advanced skin care workshops, product and technology seminars, as well as safety and sanitization in the workplace. Jamie also enjoys the outdoors and finding adventures with her family.

Elena Velkovsky


Elena began her Micropigmentation career in 2003. Her professional knowledge and grasp of Micropigmentation has allowed her to create ideal results for her clients, by carefully choosing the colours and shapes that can advantageously highlight one's best features all the while skillfully masking their flaws. Thorough knowledge of the permanent makeup industry has allowed Elena to choose the highest quality and safest products for her work by collaborating with the Swiss Color® Brand. Elena has accumulated over 8 years of experience as a Micropigmentation Educator and as a Certified Swiss Color® International trainer. She will be honored to present to you an advanced training method formulated for the new generations. It is time to forget about old techniques, unsuccessful tattooing and the negative consequences that we have seen in the past with permanent makeup. Elena is ready to immerse you in the world of innovative technologies. Only the best devices, pigments, and unique techniques in permanent makeup will be taught to our students through a multitude of cutting edge, state of the art SwissColor ® programs.

Patricia Ismail


Patricia Ismail is a mother to 4 beautiful children. She has been an Esthetician for 11 years taking most of her education through The Esthetic Institute Training Center. Threading was introduced to her 16 years ago through her immigrated relatives and she has been practicing ever since. Patricia has a passion for detail, which has excelled her business and created a constant income for her. Her care for people has developed true friendships and relationships to beautiful women that inspire her to achieve higher and educate better. She loves to teach people and see them achieve their dreams in being an educated Esthetician in such an incredible industry. Prior to starting her career in Esthetics, Patricia studied hair design at Marvel College in 1999 and later took business courses at a career college in 2001. This was a successful entry point into the salon industry where she soon found her passion and future as an Esthetician.

Cheryl Newton


Cheryl is a certified Clinical Esthetician and business owner. Her passion for helping people improve their skin and prevent the signs of aging has been her driving force. Cheryl is an educator with The Esthetic Institute in the Clinical Program and strives to empower individuals to have the confidence and passion to be successful in the industry. Cheryl also has an extensive background in finance and is the school Registrar and is responsible for managing the student loan program.

Robert Gautreau


Knowing that he can make a difference in someone's life by helping them view themselves in a more positive way is why Robert began his journey in the hair industry 5 years ago. He has served the Millrise and Inglewood communities behind the chair, gaining a wonderful clientele along the way. With 10 years of visual merchandising experience, he’s also found excitement in executing a vision. The journey is equally as important as the end goal!

Over the years he has gained extensive experience behind-the-scenes at hair shows, photo shoots, weddings and fashion shows. Education has consistently been a part of Robert’s career; he has taken advanced cutting and styling education through the brands Evo Hair, Sunlights Balayage, Oligo Professionnel, Schwarzkopf, Sexy Hair and Redken. Specializing in creative coloring and long hair cutting/styling, he regularly attends classes and seminars to learn new techniques. He also keeps up with current hair trends/styles for inspiration and to keep things exciting for my clients at his home-based salon.

Robert also works at Beauty Depot in a Sales/Merchandising position. He loves getting to know current and up and coming professionals in the ever growing beauty industry! He’s constantly learning about new and innovative products so he can share the information with staff, students and clients.

Patrice McPhee


Patrice McPhee graduated the full time esthetics program at The Esthetic Institute, qualifying and passing the CIDESCO international examination with the first class. Having been affected by acne and problem skin since her early teens and into adulthood, she understands first hand how overwhelming it can be trying to find an effective solution. Seeing her son also affected by problem skin and acne, she has dedicated herself to staying current on available products, technology, and techniques to give her clients definitive results. She believes in the Golden Rule "Do to others what you want them to do to you" and is happiest while in the service of others. She is honored to be an educator specializing in Skin Care training at The Esthetic Institute!

Jo Jo Chan


Jo Jo, an honours' graduate of a complete Esthetics Program in Calgary, has been in the industry for 7 years; with professional experience ranging from Day Spa services (Waxing, Manicures, Pedicures, Gel Polish Applications, Body Wraps, Sugaring, Facials and Tinting) to Clinical services (HydraFacials, Dermaplaning, Microblading and Microdermabrasion). While performing such services on a regular basis, she has accepted opportunities to assist with management roles and training junior Estheticians at both franchise and local spas throughout her journey. As a well-rounded Esthetician, Jo Jo has gained substantial knowledge and skills in retail sales, as well as client complications within the service industry. Although having a variety of these certificates under her belt, her specialty lies in speed waxing, especially hard wax, but nail art is her passion. Interested in perfecting her skills at nail art is what brought her to explore the world of Esthetics. Jo Jo's motto is to create pieces of art on even the smallest of canvases to bring out different types of personalities that speaks for itself. Genuinely believing that even the shortest of nails deserves to have fun too, she will guide you through efficient tips and tricks of the trade to creating the trendiest nail art at ease.

Stacey Causier


Stacey has been in and out of the esthetic, makeup and modelling field since Post Secondary school. Most recently she obtained her Esthetic diploma from The Esthetic Institute in Calgary. Shortly thereafter she joined the staff as a Teacher's Assistant in the Cidesco program while maintaining a home-based esthetics business (StaceyLynn Makeup & Esthetics). She enjoys sharing her passion, experience and artistry to help bring out the best in her clients and her students. With her extensive experience in management, leadership and coaching she hopes that those she works with can reach their true potential (both academically and personally). She spends her spare time teaching yoga, as well as personal training and spending time with her family.

Melissa Loeffler


Melissa has been an Esthetician since 2015 and has completed all of her training at The Esthetic Institute with a wide range of courses including the Brow and Lash programs, followed by the Full Esthetic and Clinical Diploma programs. She has also been assisting in TEI's Microblading course for the past several years. She loves learning and is always looking for the newest products and services in the industry. When she isn't busy working, learning, or teaching she is off chasing her toddler on their next great adventure.

Michelle Boyd


Born and raised in Calgary, Michelle has been a Professional Makeup Artist for the past 6 years and has been a Lead Artist on the Trena Laine Makeup Studio squad for last several years. Michelle started her own artistry company, Shampaign Taste, years following being a cancer survivor herself and wanting to empower others around her. She currently runs her lash extension business at the Trena Laine Makeup Studio. Michelle understands both enhancement makeup for wedding, runway and professional photoshoots after years of working with Trena Laine and building a solid clientele. Her knowledge of sensitivities, the human skin and working with client's unique situations has separated her from many others in the Calgary industry. Prior to launching her company full time, Michelle worked part time at Sephora and studied several product lines during her time there. She became known as the "natural artist" with the in-store clients with her skills and paying attention to detail, and this is what makes her shine on the Trena Laine squad as both a Lead Artist and now Makeup Instructor & Assistant at the Esthetic Institute. Early 2018, Michelle has been training and educating alongside Trena to ensure students are experiencing and being educated for real life, job ready skills. You will see Michelle assisting the Advanced Makeup Program and teaching Makeup 101 Fundamentals here in Calgary.

Angela Rowland


Angela’s career started first in health care. She graduated in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and worked as a Registered Nurse for 14 years, with the bulk of those years spent as a Diabetes Educator. After 14 years she made the decision to transition to the world of esthetics. She trained in clinical esthetics and worked awhile in the spa industry before going back to school yet again to get her esthetics diploma from The Esthetic Institute of Calgary. Angela also holds a certification in Oncology Esthetics as well as Advanced Pedicures and provides safe and approved Oncology treatments at The Esthetic Institute Spa. Working with people is all she has ever wanted to do and is honoured to be an educator at TEI.
